AEMBBR-MBR System
AEMBBR-MBR SYSTEM, the new wastewater reuse way
The new wastewater reuse system that unites two of our moving bed (MBBR) and membrane bioreactor (MBR) technologies
The innovative biological system in the world consists of unifying the moving bed (MBBR) and membrane bioreactor (MBR) systems into one.
The first of them, the MBBR consists of introducing an activated sludge system with plastic fillers designed, manufactured and patented by BIO-FIL®.
With this we manage to accumulate colonies of bacteria that favor the degradation of organic matter and the transformation of nitrogenous components (NH, NO and NO2) into N gas and water. This increase in biomass concentration in the reactor is what makes it possible to treat the aforementioned increase in organic load. However, the system requires traditional clarification or a DAF flotation system.
The second system (MBR) is based on also incorporating an active sludge system and a set of ultrafiltration membranes, which alone allows a greater organic load to be treated.
Thanks to the fact that a higher concentration of biomass is achieved in the reactor (up to 15-20 g/l), due to the barrier constituted by the membranes on the sludge, the system eliminates secondary decantation, which limits the quality of the water.
ADVANTAGES OF THE NEW TECHNOLOGY OVER OTHER ACTIVATED SLUDGE SYSTEMS.
1.- INCREASE IN LOAD
By implementing the AEMBBR-MBR system in existing activated sludge plants that need to treat an additional load greater than the design load, a ratio greater than 250% of the initial one will be achieved, that is, an existing plant that by design can treat 5000 kg of BOD /day, it will be able to treat 12,000 kg BOD/day.
2.- IMPROVE THE PURITY OF WATER
The AEMBBR-MBR system does not use any traditional clarification system to clarify the water (neither secondary decanter nor FAF flotation), the UF membranes themselves are used, which separate the water from the active sludge, thus giving the best water quality.
3.- NO CIVIL WORK
In the case of lack of space to locate the membranes, they can be located in the existing settler work, therefore it is not necessary to build additional civil works.
4.- LESS SPACE
In the case of the construction of a new plant, the occupied surface area can be up to 50% less, to achieve the same objectives of a conventional plant.
5.- ENERGY AND SLUDGE SAVINGS
The necessary energy savings and the production of sludge generated are at least 30% compared to a traditional activated sludge system. The sludge generated, due to its viscosity produced by the MBBR biological system, favors the transfer of oxygen by increasing the ALPHA (α) factor and keeping it high; Thanks to this, energy consumption is lower, as is sludge production. See the attached graph.
6.- GREATEST RESULTS
It is the ideal system for the elimination of nitrogenous compounds in wastewater regardless of their origin, even in groundwater contaminated by the percolation of agricultural fertilizers or flower crops, due to the long age of the sludge. These compounds are all converted into nitrate (NO3), the denitrification system designed by mixing the recirculation of the mixed liquor with the incoming carbonaceous matter, this carbonaceous matter is transformed into CO2 and nitrogen gas.
7.-GREATER TRANSPARENCY
Thanks to the extremely low porosity of the 0.03 m membranes, the turbidity of the treated water is less than 2.5 NTU and its color is less than 5 Pt-Co (platinum-cobalt) units.
8.- FULLY REUSABLE WATER
The wastewater treated with our AEMBBR-MBR system is completely reusable even in production processes of any type of industry, except for those with high conductivity that are treated using the SALTEX system. It can even be used for oral consumption in extreme cases, adding UV disinfection equipment to the system.
