USUAL PROBLEMS IN SANITARY SYSTEMS IN FOOD, SMITHERY, MUNICIPAL AND OTHER INDUSTRIES, IN THEIR WASTEWATER TREATMENT PLANTS, AND THEIR SOLUTION

PROBLEM Nº2.- TREATMENT OF THE OILS AND FATS IN BIOLOGICAL SYSTEMS OF WASTE WATER TREATMENT PLANTS

INTRODUCTION

The fats and oils that generate in a lot of industries (food, hotels, smithery and municipal sector) show different features. These wastes difficult the working and performance of the biological treatment systems. The solution to these problems comes with the application of specific microorganisms BACTERIA DF and XF, directly into the system.

Many fat substances present in influents are, in the majority of cases, biodegradable, and so these types of effluent are compatible with biological treatments. The specific problem of fat influents is related with the liberation of free fats in the aeration phase, causing a reduction in the elimination of BOD and forming foams in the aerobic biological and sludge flotation in the final phase of clarifying. These problems are usual both in polar and no polar fats.

The fats and oils are considered as slowly biodegradable substances, since the cells store them inside their cytoplasm. They hydrolyze enzymaticly, forming foams on the surface of the aerobic reactors. These new molecules difficult the elimination of the BOD inside the biological reactor and cause malfunctioning in the secondary sedimentator (sludge flotation, filamentous bacteria Nocardia), which causes a leaking of floating sludge in the sedimentator, thus reducing the effluent quality.

With the application of specific microorganisms, the problems described previously are quickly resolved. The application of BACTERIA DF directly into the biological reactor prevents foam forming by applying a preventive dosage (studied in every single case).

Sometimes the problem is found only in the sedimentator, causing a lot of filaments to appear on the surface, which in serious cases can even cover a large part of it, causing not only an unpleasant aspect but also the increase of SS in the effluent.

In this case the application of BACTERIA XF on a preventive dose in the biological system will prevent the ploriferation of these organisms in the decantator. Like in the last case, when we find an existing problem we will have to apply a shock dosage for a short period of time until the problem is solved.

This problem has been solved in wastewater treatment plants, potato treatment industries, pre-cooked food factories, milk derivatives plants and domestic wastewater.

All BACTERIA products are environmentally safe, microorganisms that are present in nature, along with their enzyme secretions. The microbes have been specially selected for their capacity to attack and degrade the organic contaminants that are usually present in food preparation and domestic wastewater.

BACTERIA products are safe to use and reduce significantly the operation costs of the plants, avoiding emergency interventions if they are used on a preventive manner to keep clean the level controls, pumps and any electromechanical compound installed in the treatment plants.

BACTERIA DF looks like amber traslucent viscous liquid.

BACTERIA XF looks like beige powder.
